Summary

This job involves providing therapy, counseling, and support to adults facing mental health challenges through a mobile program called Highway to Hope, which operates from a recreational vehicle in rural South Carolina communities.

Key Requirements

  • Master's degree in guidance, counseling, or social sciences

We are seeking a Mental Health Professional I for the Highway to Hope Program who is motivated to help individuals and families navigate life's challenges and achieve long-term wellness.

This position is located at the SC Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities (DBHDD) - Office of Mental Health, , Waccamaw Center for Mental Health, 164 Waccamaw Medical Park Drive, Conway, SC 29526.

As a Mental Health Professional I with the Highway to Hope Program you will be under general supervision of team leader and provide therapeutic services, counseling and case management to all clients of WCMH dealing with situations encompassing interpersonal, health and psychology factors. Position operates the Highway to Hope recreational vehicle into designated rural communities and provide services in the RV.

Responsibilities for the Mental Health Professional I Highway to Hope Program Include:
  • Provide therapy, emergency and case management service to adults experiencing emotional disturbance to include assessment, crisis intervention, individual, group and family therapy plus patient and family education. Services are provided within the community.
  • Coordination and consultation of service with local community agencies and organizations, other human service providers and OMH staff to assist clients in maximizing recovery efforts.
  • Maintain documentation of charts and other records in accordance with State, Federal, Local, SCDBHDD, OMH, WCMH, Quality Assurance, Corporate Compliance and CARF standards.
  • Represent the center at OMH and other community forums.
  • Plan and develop programs to improve quality of life for psychiatrically disabled patients.
  • Operate center vehicles to provide outreach and other clinical services to the community.
  • Promote Highway to Hope program in the communities of the center's catchment area.
  • Maintain effective working relationships with individuals, families and representative of other professional disciplines.
  • Ability to exercise discretion in interpreting and applying establish objectives.
  • Knowledge of normal and abnormal behavioral adjustment and investigative techniques, casework practices, interviewing techniques, legal principles, practices, clinical counseling and educational services.
  • Proficiency in organizing and maintain patient caseloads.
  • Exercise good and professional judgement at all times.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in guidance, counseling and the social sciences.
  • Must meet OMH credentialing requirements which include specific graduate coursework - Psychopathology/Psychopathology Diagnostics/Clinical Assessments - Practice with Family Therapy (DSM) and Medical Ethics.
  • Must be able to show one year evidence of clinical experience providing direct patient care and working with individuals experiencing severe and persistent mental illness. This experience maybe documented as a practicum or internship or post-graduate experience.
Additional Requirements:

Ability to lift 20 pounds; ability to see, hear at normal volumes, stand, walk, reach pull, stoop, bend and climb at least (2) flights of stairs.

Must be able to tolerate noise level and circulate in patient areas if needed for long period of times. Must be able to work with repetitive patient behaviors.

  • Must be able to provide a valid driver's license and 10-year driving record in order to operate state vehicle and satisfy requirements of this position.
  • Qualifications

    • Licensed with post master's experience in clinical setting - licensure through South Carolina LLR to include LPC, LMSW, LMFT.
    • Bilingual abilities in English and Spanish (or another language) are a plus.

    Additional Information

    • This position is responsible for providing 607.50 patient care hours annually yielding over $150,000.00 in billable services.
    • Documentation is completed using collaborative documentation.
    • Participate in clinical supervision, treatment teams meetings and professional development.
    • If licensed, must maintain licensure through State of South Carolina LLR.
    • Effectively utilize and maintain certification in evidence-based practices.
