This position is located at the SC Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities (DBHDD) – Office of Mental Health, Spartanburg Area Mental Health Center, 250 Dewey Ave., Spartanburg, SC 29303.


As the Mental Health Professional I, under limited supervision, you will provide culturally sensitive in Individual Therapy, Group Therapy, Crisis Assessment, PRS, and case management services to assigned clients in the Rehab Services Program.

Responsibilities for the Mental Health Professional I:

  • Provide Assessment, Individual and Group Services, Crisis Intervention, PRS, and Family Therapy to assigned clients.
  • Function as a part of treatment team. Work with clients and other staff to develop Treatment Plans for individual clients and help to develop program plan to meet these individual clients and help to develop program plan meet these individual goals.
  • Assist with coordinating care for patients at Rosewood Assisted Living Faculty, Cantrell's Residential Care Facility, and Draymont Ridge apartments, and act as liaison between Mental Health Center and those facilities.
  • Maintain clinical records to Quality Assurance Standards and maintain compliance with Federal, State and Local Corporate Compliance Laws.
  • Attend staff meetings, supervisory conference, workshops, and required staff development and training.

Requirements

  • A master's degree in guidance, counseling, the social sciences or a related field.
    ADDITIONAL COMMENTS:
  • In order to be credentialed for core services as a Mental Health Professional at the SC Office of Mental Health, applicants must provide evidence of clinical experience providing direct patient care.

    This experience may be documented as a practicum or internship during graduate program, or post-graduate clinical experience.

    Qualifications

    • Knowledge of methods, principles and practices of counseling, psychopathology and patient management, of basic health and welfare services and the ability to establish and maintain effective contact with individuals, families and representative of other professional disciplines.
    • Bilingual abilities in English and Spanish (or another language) are a plus.

    Additional Information

    Post hire, employees must:
    • Successfully complete the Basic Fundamentals course with a minimum grade of 75.
    • Be able to pass CPR and Managing Agitation in the Psychiatric Setting (MAPS) Certification.
    • Be able to evaluate a patient's medical status and needs and use knowledge and judgement to respond appropriately.
    • Be able to pain, implement, and evaluate patient medical plans.
    • Knowledge of methods, principles and practices of counseling, psychopathology and patient management, of basic health and welfare services and the ability to establish and maintain effective contact with individuals, families and representative of other professional disciplines.
