This position is located at the SC Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities (DBHDD) - Office of Mental Health (OMH), Charleston Dorchester Mental Health Center (CDMHC), Dorchester Clinic 106 Springview Lane Summerville, SC 29485.

Under general supervision, you will provide advanced clinical assessments, consultation, crisis intervention, and short-term case management services for patients being discharged from local hospitals or from the community at large. The overall purpose of this position is to provide timely access to outpatient mental health services and to divert hospitalizations and/or incarcerations. In addition, this individual works mobile crisis after-hours.

Responsibilities for the Mental Health Professional:

  • Provide quality person-centered care as demonstrated by the use of evidenced-based clinical interventions.
  • Provide all forms of direct services as credentialed by the Center in an efficient manner as evidenced by meeting the established productivity expectation.
  • Produce documentation that is reflective of the quality care expected of this position.
  • Demonstrate recognition of importance of collaboration and teamwork within the Center and the community.
  • Ensure patient functionality is measured according to established standard.
  • Retain overall responsibility for meeting Quality Assurance standards.
  • Ensure timely response to request for services.
  • Comply with all OMH/CDMHC, policies and protocols, applicable QI, Corporate Compliance, Cultural Competency and CARF policies and procedures and Federal and State rules and regulations and attends all trainings classified mandatory by Federal and State regulations and Center Policy.
  • Provide advance triage for walk-ins and phone callers, assist patients seeking routine intake appointments, provide screening for psychiatric emergencies.

Requirements

  • A master’s degree in guidance, counseling, the social sciences or a related field.
Additional Requirements

In order to be credentialed for core services as a Mental Health Professional at the SC Office of Mental Health, applicants must provide evidence of clinical experience providing direct patient care.

This experience may be documented as a practicum or internship during graduate program, or post-graduate clinical experience.

  • This position requires the ability to bend, stoop, climb, drive form location to location, lift and file.
  • Qualifications

    • A master’s or doctorate degree from an accredited program, university, or college in psychology, social work, counseling, marriage and family counseling or other behavioral discipline deemed equivalent by SCOMH.

    Additional Information

    Post hire, employees must:
    • Have working knowledge of Mental Health legal principles and practices, of methods, principles and practices of clinical counseling and educational services.
    • Have considerable knowledge of psychopathology and patient management in psychiatric settings.
    • Have working knowledge of basic health and welfare services provided by other agencies.
    • Be able to effectively plan, coordinate and manage complex treatment and to the ability to conduct detailed investigations, draw conclusions and recommend required actions.
