About the Position: This position is located at Brooke Army Medical Center at Fort Sam Houston, TX This is a Direct Hire Solicitation Salary negotiation may be available for those candidates who are new to Federal service.

Non-Federal work experience may be creditable for leave purpose Who May Apply: US Citizens In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social).

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes performing technical medical laboratory support work such as performing laboratory tests and examinations (chemical, microbiologic, hematologic, blood banking) and preparing reports of findings.

AND Certification Requirement: Certification from the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP), American Medical Technologist (AMT) or other board or registry deemed comparable by Office of the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Health Affairs (OASD(HA)) or their designee as a Medical Technologist (MT) or Medical Lab Scientist (MLS) is required.

(Copy of certification must be submitted with application package.) Major Duties:

  • Perform a wide variety of testing in the areas of hematology, chemistry, coagulation, urinalysis, and limited microbiology testing
  • Distribute specimens to the appropriate laboratory section in a timely manner.
  • Act as a liaison with physicians and other hospital professional staff in resolving problems associated with specimen collection and requisitions.
  • Maintain, calibrate, and troubleshoot laboratory instruments
  • Maintain records and prepares reports
  • Perform phlebotomy with strict patient identification and safety procedures.
