About the Position: This position is located at Fort Irwin, California A recruitment or relocation incentive may be authorized.

Salary negotiation may be available for those candidates who are new to Federal service. Student Loan repayment may be authorized.

This is a Direct Hire Solicitation Who May Apply: US Citizens In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social).

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: 1) performing clinical laboratory testing, such as routine hematology or specimen testing AND 2) calibrating and/or preparing equipment for clinical laboratory tests.

This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06).

OR Education: One full academic year of graduate level education in a field directly related, such as Medical Lab Technology, Clinical Laboratory Science, Chemistry, or Microbiology.

OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%.

To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) by 9.

Add the two percentages. Major Duties:

  • Perform moderately difficult and complex laboratory examinations and procedures.
  • Set up equipment, instruments and apparatus.
  • Calibrate various analyzers and run quality control samples on all instruments, adjust as necessary and perform operator maintenance.
  • Manage patient result status by verifying and certifying results input into laboratory computer system.
  • Select, perform and monitor a wide variety of tests using moderately complex automated analytical systems.
  • Perform microbiological testing using Rapid Strep, Rapid Influenza, Hem occult kits, routine B-HCG tests, and other rapid diagnostic kits.
  • Make routine determination of the ph or urine by use of multiple test reagent strips.
