About the Position: The Medical Support Assistant (Office Automation) GS-0679-05 position is located at the US Air Force Academy, Colorado Springs, Colorado.

**Proficiency Required: This position requires a qualified typist.

A qualified typist can type 40 words per minute based on a 5 minute sample with three or fewer errors.** This is a Direct Hire Solicitation Who May Apply: US Citizens In order to qualify, you must meet the Education and/or Experience requirements described below.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social).

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-04 grade level in the Federal service which includes documented/demonstrated experience performing work such as receptionist, recordkeeping, clerical, and administrative support functions that provided you with the knowledge of clinical procedures involving patient care that included duties such as receiving patients, scheduling appointments; maintaining charts, files, or records; providing information to patients, professional medical staff, and the general public and utilizing a personal computer and office automation software programs.

OR Education: Successfully completed four years of education above the high school level obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college, or university.

(Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.) OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%.

To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of by 60. Add the two percentages.

  • Oversees the scheduling of patient appointments and provides guidance and training to lower graded employees.
  • Extracts medical information from patients’ records as requested/needed by the medical staff.
  • Performs maintenance of medical records and reviews maintenance of medical records to ensure they are maintained in accordance with regulations/instructions and other established guidelines.
  • Scan medical documentation into Electronic Health Records (EHR) in accordance with directives.
  • Uses multiple office automation software with varied functions to produce a wide range of documents, formats, etc.
  • Reviews documentation to obtain additional information and determines eligibility for treatment.
  • Receives and answers or relays incoming and outgoing telephone, intercom, and electronic messages.
