About the Position: This position is with the 375th Medical Group, Scott Air Force Base, Illinois. Salary negotiation may be available for those candidates who are new to Federal service.

Specialized Experience: One year specialized experience which includes scheduling patients for medical appointments; maintaining medical records; and using automated systems to perform clerical duties.

This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-04).

OR Education: Four years of education above the high school level obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university.

OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%.

To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education beyond two years (total semester hours minus 60) by 60.

Add the two percentages. Proficiency Required: This position requires a qualified typist. A qualified typist can type 40 words per minute based on a 5 minute sample with three or fewer errors.

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-05).

Major Duties:

  • Coordinate patient scheduling activities of the medical facility to ensure a smooth flow of the daily services.
  • Perform maintenance of medical records and review maintenance of medical records to ensure they are maintained in accordance with Medical Treatment Facility regulations/instructions and other established guidelines.
  • Answer questions and assist patients and visitors that cannot be satisfied by less experienced employees.
  • Receive incoming and outgoing telephone, intercom, electronic, and voicemail messages.
  • Use multiple office automation software with varied functions to produce a wide range of documents, formats, etc.
  • Organize patient records to research records, extract medical information, and review records for completeness, accuracy, and consistency with medical facility requirements.
