Grade Determinations: GS-6 Grade Level Experience. One year of experience equivalent to the GS-5 grade level. AND, Demonstrated Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities.

Candidates must demonstrate [all of] the KSAs below: i. Ability to collaborate and communicate with a wide range of medical clinicians across multiple disciplines (e.g.

medical doctors, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, clinical pharmacists, and nursing staff) to accomplish team goal setting to ensure medical care to patients is met.

ii. Ability to independently set priorities and organize work to meet deadlines, ensuring compliance with established processes, policies, and regulations. iii.

Ability to communicate tactfully and effectively, electronically, by phone, in person, and in writing, with internal and external customers.

This may include preparing reports in various formats and presenting data to various organizational levels, as well as resolving patient concerns. iv.

Advanced knowledge of the technical health care process (including, but not limited to, scheduling across interdisciplinary coordinated care delivery and/or care in the community models and patient health care portals) as it relates to access to care.

v.

Advanced knowledge of policies and procedures associated with interdisciplinary coordinated care delivery and/or care in the community operational activities that affect patient flow, and patient support care administrative functions to include, but not limited to appointment cycles, outside patient referrals, follow-up care, overbooking, provider availability, etc.

vi. Advanced knowledge of medical terminology due to the technical nature of language utilized by clinicians. Preferred Experience: 1 year scheduling experience in a medical setting.

VA Careers - Medical Support Assistant: https://www.youtube-nocookie.com/embed/EE9c4XkaELo Total Rewards of a Allied Health Professional This position provides advanced support work in connection with the care and treatment given to patients in the General Physiatry, Pain, Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Traumatic Brain Injury, Spinal Cord Injury, Brace, Amputee, EMG, and Acupuncture Clinics and its Community Based Outpatient Physical Therapy and Occupational Therapy Clinics in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PM&R) Service.

The PM&R Advanced Medical Support Assistant (MSA) generally performs a variety of support duties working collaboratively in an interdisciplinary coordinated care delivery model in this specialty care setting.

The incumbent collaborates with and facilitates the work of physiatrists, physical therapists, occupational therapists and other members of the medical facility who provide patient care.

The Advanced MSA coordinates and provides diverse and varying degrees of support to unit staff and manages the processing of consultations and action required reports to ensure workload is correctly entered.

The work requires practical knowledge of computerized data entry and information processing systems, advanced knowledge of standard procedures, medical records, and medically related terminology specific to PM&R services provided.

The duties include, but are not limited to: Coordinates with the patient care team to review the clinic utilization by using various reports (e.g., Clinic Utilization Statistical Summary), ensures that the clinic setup is closely monitored to effectively support the needs of the clinic, and makes any necessary adjustments.

Maintains effective and efficient communication with the patient, interdisciplinary team, VA medical centers, and other agencies.

Assists veterans who are physically disabled (such as amputees, patients with braces, and patients who use other prosthetic devices) as well as take care of the demands of walk-in patients.

Communicates effectively at advanced levels both orally and in writing and, furthermore, must be able to expediently and accurately type data from a keyboard into a computer-based document.

Functions as an independent clinic clerk and receptionist.

Provides complete appointment management according to clinic guidelines, to include scheduling, cancelling, and re-scheduling patient appointments and/or consults; enters no-show information; ensures encounters that need Action Required are completed to obtain appropriate workload credit; verifies and updates demographic and insurance information, among other aspects of appointment management.

Receives and makes telephone calls for clinical staff and acts as a receptionist to veteran patients, other professional and clinical staff, and the public.

Composes correspondence pertaining to clerical and administrative functions of the clinical service.

Prepares on own initiative, letters, memoranda, clinical reports, and other official correspondence for signature of clinical staff and reviews same for accuracy of spelling and grammar.

Maintains electronic records and files on all matters pertaining to the overall function of the service.

Such material includes, but is not limited to, policy directives, regulations, procedural changes, bulletins, circulars, local policies/procedures, correspondence, clinical files, and reports.
