About the Position: This is a Medical Support Technician (Sterile Processing) position with the Dental Clinics at Fort Drum, New York. This is a Direct Hire Solicitation.

Salary negotiation is available for those new to Federal employment. Who May Apply: US Citizens In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social).

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes utilizing regulatory standards to sterilize medical supplies and equipment for use in a hospital or operating rooms; assembling medical instrument trays for medical procedures; wrapping and labeling instrument sets for the sterilization process; and checking supplies for compliance with regulations and policies.

This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05).

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify.

For this grade (GS-6), you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.

Certification (Preferred/Not Required): Healthcare Sterile Processing Association (HSPA) Major Duties:

  • Perform testing on equipment for the cleaning and sterilization of surgical instruments.
  • Monitor and maintain inventory to ensure sufficient supplies are available.
  • Utilize the appropriate sterilization method based upon manufacture requirements and recommendations.
  • Assemble and package surgical instruments based on standard operating procedures.
  • Coordinate issuance of equipment to appropriate departments within the medical center.
