Job Description

Summary

This job involves working in a hospital's sterile processing department to clean, inspect, assemble, and sterilize medical instruments and supplies for use in surgeries and clinics.

About the Position: This position is located in the Sterile Processing Department at Evans Army Community Hospital in Fort Carson, Colorado.

This is a Direct Hire Solicitation A recruitment or relocation incentive may be authorized. Salary negotiation may be available for those candidates who are new to Federal service.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social).

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-05 grade level in the federal government which includes demonstrated experience assembling medical instrument trays; wrapping and labeling instrument sets in preparation for the sterilization process; checking supplies to ensure required compliance; AND decontaminating the full range of reusable medical supplies and equipment used within the assigned area.

This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05). Major Duties:

  • Inspect reusable medical supplies and/or instruments for damage.
  • Monitor operation of sterilizer with prescribed tests.
  • Prepare contaminated surgical items for sterilization procedures.
  • Determine type of medical tray/set needed based on clinic schedule.
  • Manage records of medical supply inventory to determine reordering need.
  • Conduct equipment testing of surgical instruments to ensure operational efficiency.
