Requirements

The Medical Records Assistant handles and protects sensitive, private, legally-privileged, and confidential data and information.

This includes releasing, distributing, sharing, or conveying data and information only in accordance with established requirements and only to authorized individuals.

Work involves diagnostically coding diseases and conditions, maintaining current knowledge of coding conventions, communicating with clinical personnel to clarify ambiguous or incomplete documentation, ensuring records are updated promptly and accurately, and completing other essential and regular medical records functions on a daily basis.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment, 37.5 hour work week
  • Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • One year of clerical experience maintaining or reviewing medical records, transcribing dictated or recorded medical information, or conducting medical abstracting and coding; or
  • Graduation from an accredited medical secretarial, medical records, medical transcription, medical assisting, medical coding, or health information management program; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.

  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.


Legal Requirements:

  • A conditional offer of employment will require a medical examination.
  • This position falls under the provisions of the Older Adult Protective Services Act.
    • Under the Act, a conditional offer of employment will require submission and approval of satisfactory criminal history reports, including but not limited to, PA State Police and FBI clearance.
