Job Description

Summary

This job involves helping a military medical facility in North Dakota prepare for and respond to emergencies, such as disasters or health crises, by advising leaders, managing plans, and coordinating with local agencies.

Basic Requirements for Medical Readiness Specialist: Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes providing guidance for a variety of emergency situations; developing criteria for exercising contingency response plans; and monitoring emergency response program operations to ensure action requirements are met.

This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09).

OR Education: Ph.D or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as: Emergency Management, Medical Emergency Services, Public Health Administration.

OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%.

To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12.

Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 18. Add the two percentages.

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-09).

Major Duties:

  • Serve as the Medical Emergency Manager (MEM) and technical advisor to the Military Treatment Facility commander.
  • Manage policies and procedures to ensure accomplishment of programs and to find ways to improve quality, timeliness, and efficiency of work.
  • Serve as the MTF commander’s liaison promptly keeping the installation and local civilian medical/emergency response agencies updated to ensure an emergency response posture is maintained that will enable effective response to disasters
  • Prepare the Annual Medical Readiness Training and Exercise Schedule (MRTES) and ensure the MTF meets training and exercise requirements that effectively presents the required subject matter and enhances performance.
  • Conduct inspections and audits to measure the effectiveness of the various medical readiness functions in meeting goals and objectives.
  • Provide medical input for development of disaster plan details and checklists that cover military and other federal agencies in the area.
