This job involves being the first point of contact for fixing computer and software issues in a healthcare setting for veterans, including troubleshooting equipment and integrating systems like VISTA.
It also includes managing data, updating databases, and creating reports or policies to support department operations.
A good fit would be someone with IT troubleshooting experience in healthcare or government, strong organizational skills, and the ability to work with teams to solve technical problems.
The Medical Management Specialist serves as the initial point of contact for dealing with information systems problems within Clinical Center/Service Line/Service or Department, including troubleshooting equipment or resolving VISTA software difficulties, as well as PC based applications that are relevant to the department.
Liaison with IRM, other ADPACs, hospital staff, and management to achieve seamless integration of VISTA components, and personal computer (PC) application software.

TIME-IN-GRADE REQUIREMENT: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement.
For a GS-9 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-7. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service.
For a GS-11 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-9. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service.
An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials.

To qualify for this position at the GS-09 level, you must meet one of the following: SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: You must have at least one (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level (GS-7) in the Federal Service, that is directly related to the work of the position and has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties as a Medical Management Specialist.
Qualifying specialized experience is defined as: Experience managing projects and developing programs with responsibility for data collection, management, maintaining and updating department or service-level databases and shared computer drives; and reporting and experience developing policies, reports and correspondence.
OR EDUCATION: Successfully completed two (2) years of progressively higher-level graduate education or masters or equivalent graduate degree or LL.B.
or J.D., in a related field of the position to be filled.
Education at the graduate level must have been obtained in an accredited college or university and must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of this position.
OR COMBINATION: Combinations of successfully completed graduate level education (beyond the first year) and specialized experience as described above, to meet the total experience requirements.
The education portion must include graduate courses that demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do to the work of this position.
This education must have been obtained in an accredited college or university.

Physical Requirements: This is primarily a sedentary position, but the work requires some walking, bending, stooping and carrying items such as manuals, documents. etc.
Concentration and sustained performance under prolonged stress is required because of the time factors involved in completion of work assignments within deadlines.

Major Duties:
Duties include but not limited to: Participates in planning future information technology hardware and software requirements for the Service. Develops and submits annual needs assessments to IRM.
Highlight trends and depict results, using presentation graphics and other visuals.
Provides administrative, clinical, and research reports from the database, using available VISTA menu options, File Manager techniques, and PC applications as appropriate.
Monitors progress notes and consults for compliance and completeness.
Planner/Implementer for VISTA applications in accordance with VA Directives, mandates or Clinical Center/Service or Department request. VISTA Equipment Coordinator and Troubleshooter.
Incumbent is responsible for assuring that the service has essential operational components. Handles initial user triage for problems related to software or hardware.
Identifies and implements changes to clinical applications (VISTA/CORE packages) to improve performance or to correct problems which have been encountered.
Responsible for Information Security Awareness including signing off of accounts, appropriate use of Internet and email, pertinent application of the Privacy Act in preserving patient, confidentially by safeguarding the access, verify and electronic signature codes.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Promotion Potential: The selectee may be promoted to the full performance level without further competition when all regulatory, qualification, and performance requirements are met.
