Job Description

Summary

This job involves working as an ultrasound technologist in a military hospital, where you'll perform scans on patients to help diagnose illnesses or injuries, explain the process to them, and maintain the equipment.

It's a good fit for someone with hands-on experience in ultrasound procedures who enjoys working independently in a fast-paced medical environment and can train others on the technology.

The role is at a GS-8 or GS-9 level, open to U.S. citizens, and located at Fort Bragg, North Carolina.

Key Requirements

  • One year of specialized experience performing ultrasound exams on patients, such as obstetrical, extremities, transvaginal, or DVT scans (for GS-8)
  • Experience setting up, adjusting, or maintaining ultrasound diagnostic equipment
  • For GS-9: Additional experience with high-level disinfectant sterilization procedures like Trophon
  • One and a half years of graduate education in Sonography or Radiology (for GS-8), or two years/master's for GS-9
  • Combination of education and experience totaling at least 100% of requirements
  • Ability to explain ultrasound processes to patients and conduct training for staff

About the Position: Serves as an Ultrasound Technologist at Womack Army Medical Center, Fort Bragg, NC, independently performing complex and highly specialized procedures for the Radiology Department.

This is a Direct Hire Solicitation Who May Apply: US Citizens In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social).

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application.

Qualifications for GS-08: Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience performing a variety of ultrasound examinations of human patients such obstetrical, extremities, transvaginal, and/or deep vein thrombosis (DVT); setting up, adjusting, or maintaining ultrasound diagnostic equipment.

This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07).

OR Education: One and a half years of graduate level education in a field directly related to the work of the position, such as Sonography or Radiology.

OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%.

To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12.

Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the first year (total semester hours minus 18) by 9. Add the two percentages.

The total percentage must equal at least 100% to qualify.

Qualifications for GS-09: Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes performing a variety of ultrasound examinations of human patients such obstetrical, extremities, transvaginal, and/or deep vein thrombosis (DVT); setting up, adjusting, or maintaining ultrasound diagnostic equipment; performing high level disinfectant sterilization procedures such as Trophon.

This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-08).

OR Education: Two full years of graduate level education or a master's degree in a field directly related to the work of the position, such as Sonography or Radiology.

OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%.

  • Perform ultrasound examinations of human patients to aid in the diagnosis of disease or injury.
  • Explain ultrasound examining process to the patient.
  • Conduct training for personnel in ultrasound principles, procedures, capabilities, techniques and equipment operation.
  • Perform operator level maintenance and care of ultrasound equipment.
