Job Description

Summary

This job involves using ultrasound machines to scan and evaluate soft tissues in patients, especially children, at a military hospital in West Point, New York.

You'll work independently during regular shifts but be on call for evenings, weekends, and holidays, and you'll also train others on ultrasound techniques and safety.

It's a good fit for someone with experience in pediatric ultrasound who enjoys teaching and working in a fast-paced medical environment.

About the Position: This position is located at West Point, New York, Army Community Hospital Keller. Dedicated Ultrasound Office with adjoining bathroom.

Work independently and be able to recognize situations or abnormalities that require the radiologist's immediate attention or direct observation in real-time. M-F 8 hour clinical shift.

On call weeknights and weekends and holidays.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social).

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes performing a variety of ultrasound examinations of pediatric patients; setting up, adjusting, and/or maintaining ultrasound diagnostic equipment; and assisting Cardiologist or Physician in reading and/or evaluating pediatric ultrasound results.

This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07).

OR Education: One and a half years of graduate level education in a field directly related to the work of the position, such as Radiologic Technology or Magnetic Resonance Imaging.

(NOTE: you MUST submit a copy of your transcripts) OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%.

To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12.

Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the first year (total semester hours minus 18) by 9. Add the two percentages.

(NOTE: you MUST submit a copy of your transcripts) Major Duties:

  • Use diagnostic ultrasound to provide cross sectional evaluation of all soft tissue organs in the abdomen and pelvis.
  • Collaborate with Mammography and Radiologists during ultrasound guided breast biopsies.
  • Independently operate ultrasound equipment to obtain diagnostic-quality images.
  • Determine the appropriate anatomical region or organ system to be evaluated.
  • Analyze sonographic findings to distinguish between normal and pathological conditions.
  • Provide comprehensive training, instruction, and technical oversight to military personnel, sonographers, students, radiology residents, ER residents, and physicians assistants.
  • Develop and support ultrasound training plans related to diagnostic imaging quality control, equipment safety, quality assurance, and infection control practices.
