Note: Actual salary includes locality pay (15-40%+ depending on location).

Job Description

Summary

This job involves overseeing a mechanical shop at a naval shipyard, where you'll plan and manage repairs and overhauls on ships to keep projects on time and within budget.

You'll lead teams of workers and coordinate with different trades to ensure smooth operations.

Full Job Description

You will serve as a MECHANICAL SHOP SUPERVISOR in the MECHANICAL SHOP, PRODUCTION RESOURCES DEPARTMENT of PORTSMOUTH NAVAL SHIPYARD.

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector.

Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Experience developing short- and long-range planning to ensure the equipment, tooling, and manning requirements are met to support ship availability on and off yard.

Experience monitoring work in progress and upon completion to ensure work is completed on time, with quality and within cost.

Experience preparing production status reports describing delivery status and forecast, schedule problems or delinquencies, and schedule recovery actions.

Experience working with representatives of various trades to coordinate, sequence and prioritize production and test effort within the area.

Experience managing overhaul and repair shop operations through subordinate supervisors of various trades.

  • You will provide input into the development of the project execution strategy and ensuring that work is done only when identified in the work package and released by work packaging and control.
  • You will conduct periodic cost and schedule adherence meetings; and resolves conflicts.
  • You will provide short and long range planning; determining work priorities; conducting periodic cost and schedule adherence analysis.
  • You will plan, schedule and assign work to subordinate employees and shop planners.
