Full Job Description

Serves as the Mechanical System Manager for Distributed Institutional Systems & Research Support Mechanical Systems at the Glenn Research Center.

Responsibilities include advocacy, planning, designing, developing, operating and maintaining mechanical equipment, and components for the following systems: Central Steam Plant, Central Chiller Plants, Cooling Towers, Domestic Water, Combustion Air, Refrigerated Air, Altitude and Atmospheric Exhaust, Service Air and Lube Oil Systems.

In addition to the Basic Education Requirement (in the Education section below), to qualify for this position you must meet the requirements below and have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade, which has equipped you with the particular competencies needed to successfully perform the duties of the position described above.

NASA utilizes OPM-approved qualification and rating requirements specific for Aerospace Technology (AST) positions which recognizes NASA's unique aerospace work.

The specific qualifications and minimum education requirements are further described below and within the education section of the job announcement.

To qualify for GS-14, you must have one year of directly related specialized experience equivalent to the GS-13 level: Advocating, planning, designing, and/or developing mechanical equipment, components and systems used to support research and development facilities; Supporting the maintenance and operations of facilities mechanical infrastructure; Collaborating with various stakeholders across multiple disciplines to achieve project success.

  • Plans, coordinates, and manages all activities associated with the engineering, operations, and maintenance of assigned systems.
  • Works with branch chief in developing long range and short range plans for improvements in engineering, operations and maintenance for assigned systems.
  • Conducts conceptual definition studies and analyses and establishes preliminary design requirements and alternatives for assigned systems.
  • Makes recommendations on projects, operations and maintenance and budgets. Reviews reports and documentation for agency, including in the areas of engineering inspections, investigations, and laboratory analyses, to evaluate agency impacts.
  • Prepares and presents reports, incident documentation, presentations and advocacies for assigned systems.
