Full Job Description

Repairs complex and specialized heavy off-road track construction equipment and provides on-site repair supervision on equipment used in the road building industry. Responsible for making independent decisions on equipment repairs at the job site.

Requirements

  1. Directly and indirectly supervises specialized road equipment repair.
  2. Repairs specialized off-road track equipment in the field, independently or with a Mechanic I.
  3. Monitors off-road engine, hydraulic and preventative maintenance requirements.
  4. Tests equipment for proper operation.
  5. Monitors the work of the technicians and verifies by operational quality of repairs made.
  6. Diagnoses repair of equipment.
  7. Provides training to Mechanics I and II in electrical, hydraulic and diesel repairs.
  8. Ensures safety of work site for employees.
  9. Serves as shop foreman in the absence of the equipment maintenance supervisor.
  10. Reads and understands repair manuals, electrical and hydraulic schematics for all off-road and track equipment.
  11. Designs, fabricates, and builds special projects for vehicles and equipment.
  12. Performs all other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED. An additional four (4) years of related experience may substitute for a high school diploma.
  • Four (4) years of heavy truck/off-road or diesel mechanic experience required.
  • Certification of graduation from an accredited Mechanic Trade School may substitute for one year of experience.
  • A current and valid Class C driver license is required upon hire.
  • A Class A CDL with a combination tanker and hazmat endorsement is required within eight (8) months of hire.
  • May require certification in a specific trade or training such as A/C or ASE coursework.
  • Controlled Area Network (CAN) experience preferred.
  • Additional technician certifications and licenses preferred.
  • Diagnosing and repairing highly complex off-road construction equipment with specialty certifications and licenses preferred.
  • Ability to train employees.
  • Thorough knowledge of road construction equipment and specialized requirements.
  • Ability to organize, plan, and make decisions.
