Under the general supervision of a program manager, the Maternal, Child, and Adolescent Health (MCAH) Community Health Worker assists professional staff in providing community outreach, education, investigation, case coordination and assistance.
THE MCAH PROGRAMThe MCAH program aims to enhance the health outcomes of reproductive-age women, infants, children, and adolescents.
It works to address key public health concerns such as maternal and infant mortality, child development, and adolescent health.
The program promotes health equity and strives to provide comprehensive, quality healthcare to underserved populations.
THE IDEAL CANDIDATEThe ideal candidate is a self-motivated individual with strong communication in English and Spanish, as well as strong organizational and outreach skills.
They are proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, and can design outreach materials such as flyers and presentations.
Comfortable engaging with both individuals and groups, they demonstrate confidence in public speaking and the ability to build trust across diverse communities.
The ideal candidate is knowledgeable about community resources, MCAH programs, and related medical and social services.
They excel in coordinating events, tracking outreach efforts, maintaining accurate documentation, and working collaboratively in team settings.
EDUCATIONAL INCENTIVE: Some positions may be eligible for an educational incentive.
This incentive may be 2.5%, 3.5%, or 5% for incumbents in eligible positions based on completion of an Associate's, Bachelor's, or Master's degree that is not required for the classification.
DEPARTMENT/AGENCY: Health Care Agency - Public Health Community Health Worker is represented by the Service Employees' International Union (SEIU) and is eligible for overtime compensation.
The eligible list established from this recruitment may be used to fill current and future Regular (including Temporary and Fixed-term), Intermittent, and Extra Help vacancies for this position only.

EDUCATION, TRAINING, and EXPERIENCE
High school diploma, GED or equivalent, plus any combination of education and experience which has led to the acquisition of the required knowledge and abilities.
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS and ABILITIESSome to thorough knowledge of: community service organizations that provide services to the MCAH program’s target population; Maternal, Child, and Adolescent Health program policies and procedures; group and family dynamics; and, general knowledge of Medical guidelines.
Skilled in: Computer applications such as a Windows environment utilizing Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint; public speaking and creating presentations; and, developing trust and effective working relationships with a diverse client population.
Ability to: Effectively communicate with individuals and groups from diverse cultural, socio-economic backgrounds; maintain case management tracking notes and reports in computer system; monitor client compliance with the Maternal, Child, and Adolescent Health program; lead and/or work effectively in a team environment; drive to client homes to conduct interviews; and, speak English and Spanish.

SUPPLEMENTAL QUESTIONNAIRE – qualifying: All applicants are required to complete and submit the questionnaire for this examination at the time of filing.
The supplemental questionnaire may be used throughout the examination process to assist in determining each applicant's qualifications and acceptability for the position.

APPLICATION EVALUATION – qualifying: All applications will be reviewed to determine whether or not the stated requirements are met. Those individuals meeting the stated requirements will be invited to continue to the next step in the screening and selection process.
WRITTEN EXAMINATION - 100%: An un-proctored, online, job-related written examination will be administered to test candidates' knowledge of language usage, interviews/confidentiality, medical knowledge and terminology, interpersonal relations, and filing.
Candidates must earn a score of seventy percent (70%) or higher to qualify for placement on the eligible list.
Candidates successfully completing the examination process may be placed on an eligible list for a period of one (1) year.
BACKGROUND INVESTIGATION: A thorough pre-employment, post-offer background investigation which may include inquiry into past employment, education, and driving record may be required for this position.
