About the Position: This position is a Materials Handler (Warehouse Worker/Motor Vehicle Operator) with the Logistics Division located at Womack Army Medical Center (WAMC) serving a full range of warehouse functions, receiving, storing, preparing shipment and distribution of supplies, materials and equipment of a medical treatment facility.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of an Materials Handler (Warehouse Woker/MVO) without more than normal supervision.

I have the ability to perform the most difficult and complex material handling duties within an organization.

I am skilled in operating transport vehicles to deliver materials and supplies to proper locations.

I am skilled operating forklifts to move, load, unload, transfer, transport and stack goods; confirming loads are properly balanced to prevent tipping for safe operation.

I can manage receipts, storage, preparations, shipments, and distribution of supplies, materials and equipment within a warehouse.

I can research past transactions for discrepancies and taking corrective actions when needed.

I can utilize office automation software and logistics systems to store, draft and process medical supply information.

I can manage various precious metals, controlled substances and sensitive items within a warehouse. I can manage loading and final count of equipment prior to shipment.

(Other Than Blueprint Reading) Dexterity and Safety Knowledge of Materials Technical Practices (Theoretical, Precise, Artistic) Work Practices (Including Keeping Things Neat, Clean, and in Order) Physical Effort: Grade 6 Materials handlers are often required to stand on hard surfaces for extended periods of time, and to bend, stoop, and work in tiring and sometimes uncomfortable positions.

They may lift and carry items that weigh up to 8 kilograms (40 pounds). The heavier items are moved with weight handling equipment or with assistance from other workers.

Working Conditions: At the grade 6 level, work is done inside or outside in areas that may be hot, damp, cold, drafty, or poorly lighted.

Materials handlers are regularly exposed to the possibility of cuts, scrapers, bruises, abrasions, falls, and injury from falling stock or mechanized work areas.

When working in hazardous materials areas, they may be subject to exposure from radiation, toxins, explosive hazards, or chemical fumes.

Work may require wearing protective clothing such as hardhats, steel toed shoes, rubber gloves, masks, and rubber aprons. Major Duties:

  • Assist in development of storage plans to for effective space utilization in the retrieval and protection of materials.
  • Review inventory documentation to identify discrepancies.
  • Perform monthly inventory to maintain strict control of controlled or high demand items.
  • Identify items requiring special handling and/or storage (e.g. refrigerator, freezer, vault, etc.) to determine appropriate storage location.
  • Report violations or perceived violations of safety rules, policies and procedures related to material handling.
  • Utilize office automation software or logistics systems to data systems to input and retrieve data.
  • Deliver supplies to internal customers and/or restock dispensing containers within a medical treatment facility (MTF) or clinic.
  • Maintain accountability of supplies and /or equipment to include proper filing per standard operating procedures, regulations, or warehouse issue and receipt documentation.
