About the Position: This position is located at Brooke Army Medical Center - Fort Sam Houston, Texas.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Materials Handler (Forklift Operator/Motor Vehicle Operator) ~ without more than normal supervision.

I have skill and knowledge of warehousing procedures and storage techniques. I can operate equipment such as a forklift, stock picker, or pallet jack to receive and store medical supply inventory.

I can use automated equipment such as personal computers, keyboards, and scanners to locate, track, and distribute orders. I can stack, move, and arrange items on pallets.

I can follow oral and written guidance, and apply sound judgment in making the appropriate decision(s) in accomplishing the mission.

I can read, write, and understand English - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

Ability To Do The Work Of The Position Without More Than Normal Supervision Ability to Interpret Instructions, Specifications, etc.

(Other Than Blueprint Reading) Dexterity and Safety Knowledge of Materials Technical Practices (theoretical, precise, artistic) Work Practices (includes keeping things neat, clean, and in order) Physical Effort: Light physical effort is required in reaching, bending, and turning.

Both hands, arms and feet are required as well as normal depth perception.

Incumbent must be capable of lifting 40 pounds alone, and heavier items with the assistance of other employees or mechanical devices.

Working Conditions: Work is performed in side or outside in areas that may be hot, damp, cold, draft, or poorly lighted.

May be exposed to the possibility of cuts, scrapes, bruises, abrasions, falls, and injury from falling stock or mechanized work areas.

May be subject to radiation, toxins, explosive hazards, or chemical fumes. Work requires protective clothing such as safety shoes, gloves, masks, aprons, etc. Major Duties:

  • Issue, store, and inventory medical and non-medical supplies/equipment in the branch warehouse.
  • Load and unload supplies using pallet jacks and forklifts.
  • Utilize a hand-held tracking system to track packages received into the facility.
  • Ensure stock rotation so that shortest shelf life items are utilized and prevent losses.
  • Receive stock from receiving operations and determine the appropriate storage location based upon Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS), size and frequency of use.
  • Responsible for overall management and storage of medical gases, ensuring that they are separated and posted accordingly by type of gas and quantity.
  • Refill liquid nitrogen for Family Medicine and Dermatology clinics on a recurring basis.
  • Ensure that controlled substances, refrigerated, freezer, flammable, radioactive or hazardous materials are stored correctly upon receipt.
  • Perform preventive maintenance on all materiel handling equipment and vehicles utilized by the section.
