Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a Materials Handler (Forklift Operator) without more than normal supervision.

This includes but is not limited to the ability to perform common Materials Handler (Forklift Operator) tasks including receiving general guidance on where and how to identify items to be received, stored, and maintained.

- Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Ability To Do The Work Of The position Without More Than Normal Supervision Ability to Interpret Instructions, Specification, etc.

Dexterity and Safety Knowledge of Materials Technical Practices (theoretical, precise, artistic) Work Practices (includes keeping things neat, clean, and in order) Physical Effort: Uses moderate physical effort while performing the various maneuvers involved in the operation of forklift and other material handling equipment.

Is subject to strain caused by vibration of the machine. Frequently lifts and carries merchandise and supplies that weighs up to, but seldom in excess of 70 pounds.

Help is normally available for weights in excess of 70 pounds.

Performs work on hard surfaces and in work areas that require standing, stooping, bending, and working in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Work Conditions: Work is performed inside and outside.

Works in areas that are hot, cold, damp, drafty, and/or poorly lighted. Works in bad weather such as outside areas and open docks. The work may be dirty, dusty, and greasy.

Work is performed in close quarters in warehouse aisles and docks. Is exposed to injury through careless storing and stacking of material.

Is frequently exposed to the possibility of cuts, scrapes and bruises while performing the job.

Selecting officials may select or not select from a certificate of best-qualified candidates OR from a list of applicants eligible for noncompetitive placement (5 CFR 335).

If you are currently stationed in the overseas area, all of your overseas time will be credited toward your current overseas tour end date.

Your overseas time served will not reset upon accepting this assignment.

If you have returned from OCONUS within the past 2 years or less, your time previously served in the OCONUS area will be credited to your 5-year overseas rotation upon accepting this assignment.

***Special Note for Military Members*** MILITARY RETIREES: A retired member of the Armed Forces may not be appointed to a civilian position in DoD (including a non-appropriated fund position) within 180 days after retirement -[**unless the following conditions have been met: the Secretary concerned authorizes the appointment; or the position is authorized special pay under 5 U.S.C.

5305; or a state of national emergency exists].

Separated Military Members: Resumes will be accepted from members of the Armed Forces who indicate in their applications that they are available for appointment within 120 days of the closing date of this announcement.

Military members may be appointed while on terminal/ transitional leave, before the effective date of their military retirement/separation.

5305. Major Duties:

  • Assists in loading and unloading of products to and from trucks, containers and other subsistence conveyances using forklifts, manual and mechanized pallet jacks, or other approved Material Handling Equipment.
  • Participates in inventories.
  • Performs a wide range of warehousing tasks to include receiving, storing, selecting and shipping perishable and semi-perishables subsistence.
  • Checks, assembles and processes documents and routes subsistence and equipment to correct locations or storage areas.
  • Prepares shipping and inventory documents with required data for manual or automated inventory systems.
