This vacancy is for a GS-1801-13, Marine Inspector Senior Verifying Officer located in the Department of Homeland Security, U.S.
Coast Guard, SECTOR SAN FRANCISCO INSPECTIONS DIVISION in SAN FRANCISCO, California.
To qualify at the GS-13 grade level, your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-12 grade level in the federal sector.
Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work.
Examples of specialized experience include performing the following types of tasks on a regular basis.
Providing technical expertise and training to new inspectors, providing input to program planning, and assisting on special more complex projects (ex.
inspections of foreign flagged vessels under the Port State Control program). Developing strategies to train staff through both written and oral examinations.
Conducting and/or serving as a lead inspector on marine inspections for a variety of vessels (i.e., passenger, commercial, freight, towing vessels determining compliance with US and International laws).
Preparing, drafting and delivering briefings, technical analyses and training presentations.
Providing recommendations to supervisors, sector commanders, and district level command staffs pertaining to ongoing inspections and examinations.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Major Duties:
You will serve as a Marine Inspector Senior Verifying Officer and be responsible for the implementation of the unit's Marine Inspector qualification program, and serves as a subject matter expert, providing technical expertise, and training leadership in the compliance duties of maritime safety, vessel inspection, pollution prevention, and vessel manning laws, regulations, treaties, and international conventions.
Being a Coast Guard civilian makes you a valuable member of the Coast Guard team. Typical work assignments include: Instructing trainees on vessel's hull and machinery systems.
Conducting inspections of vessel's hull and machinery systems.
Assisting with the development, implementation, and maintenance of written, unit-level Marine Inspector qualification program guidance and procedures.
Serving as unit's expert to develop in-house training, on the job training and qualification processes, as well as co-chair of unit's marine inspection qualification board.
Identifying knowledge gaps or weaknesses and implements and conducts regularly scheduled unit training sessions to facilitate training and qualification of Marine Inspectors/ Port State Control Officers.
