This job involves supporting the head of perioperative nursing services at a VA medical center by coordinating operations, ensuring smooth access to care, and helping develop policies for operating room services.
It focuses on managing information security, planning projects, and collaborating with teams to improve patient experiences in a hospital setting.

This position reports to the Chief of Nurse Perioperative Services.
The primary purpose of the position is to aid and support the Chief Nurse of Perioperative Services and GPM and all services which provide services to/utilize the operating rooms at Jesse Brown VA Medical Center as it relates to operations as applicable.
The incumbent is responsible for coordinating all operations. To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 04/01/2026.
Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement.
For a GS-12 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-11. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service.
An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials.
If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement.
In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade.

You may qualify based on your experience as described below: Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-11 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization.
Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: Communication and interpersonal relations, including the ability to appropriately and courteously relate to internal and external customers; responsible for protecting that information from unauthorized release or from loss, alteration, or unauthorized deletion; Manages information security within areas of responsibility to ensure that computer system security and confidentiality of sensitive information is maintained, and that employee access to sensitive information is limited only to that which the employee requires to perform their duties; Inclusive knowledge of the range of national administrative laws, policies, regulations, and precedents applicable to the administration of one or more important public programs including those such as advanced principles and strategies for access improvement, Joint Commission, VACM Laws 203 and 303, Clinical Management Directive, Scheduling Directive, Consult and Telephone Access to Care Guidance, MISSION Act, etc.; responsible for planning and organizing the study, estimating costs, coordinating with staff and line management personnel, and conducting all phases of the project.
Develops detailed plans, goals, and objectives for the long-range implementation and administration of the program and/or develops criteria for evaluation of effectiveness.

Major Duties:
Duties include: Provides access related consultative services, working in collaboration with facility Service Lines, to review and develop guidance and policies that will facilitate standardized processes within the facility and applicable CBOCs, etc.
Review and provide input on regulations and policies for local interpretation, utilizing local group practice management and communication strategies.
Reports to supervisor and access leadership in the facility, as assigned. Promotes established system-wide training plans to optimize local use.
Works with Veteran Experience Officers/Clinical Service Chiefs and Patient Advocates within the local facility to evaluate patient and family concerns regarding the access to services needed.
Identifies, defines and prioritizes customer service tools with assignments.
Utilizes advanced principles and strategies for access improvement to review and provide recommendations to Clinical Leads (CLs), including identifying strategies to reduce backlog.
Assists clinic/service managers in forecasting the impact of staff changes and developing countermeasures to mitigate the effect of staff shortages on access to care in relation to the functions of the operating room.
Provides administrative program advice for all operational support services. Implements established action plans that will enable clinical grids to accurately reflect supply.
Acts as a liaison or point person for communications with persons and/or groups internal or external to the facility, representing Group Practice Management on operational/ clinical access issues.
