Job Description

Summary

This job involves working for NASA's Office of Inspector General to perform audits, reviews, and analyses of NASA programs and projects, helping to improve operations and ensure compliance with rules.

You'll evaluate how well things are running, research issues, prepare reports with recommendations, and share findings with leaders.

It's a good fit for someone with experience in data analysis, report writing, and organizational improvement, especially if you have a graduate degree and enjoy investigative work in a government setting.

Key Requirements

  • One year of specialized experience equivalent to GS-09 (for GS-11), including assisting with data analysis, fact-finding, and preparing summary reports
  • For GS-12: One year of specialized experience equivalent to GS-11, including preparing policy reports, performing research and analysis, and presenting to stakeholders
  • Doctoral degree (Ph.D. or equivalent) in a relevant field, or 3 years of graduate education leading to a Ph.D., or LL.M. if related (for GS-11 alternative)
  • Combination of relevant experience and graduate education acceptable
  • Strong skills in research, evaluation, and report writing to assess program efficiency and compliance
  • Ability to present complex findings to various audiences
  • U.S. citizenship and ability to pass background checks (implied for NASA OIG role)

Full Job Description

This position is located in the Office of Inspector General, Office of Audits (OA) conducting independent, objective audits, reviews, and other examinations of NASA and NASA contractor programs and projects to improve NASA operations.

The OA provides a broad range of professional audit and advisory services, performs focused reviews of specific management issues, comments on NASA policies, and is responsible for oversight of NASA audits performed under contract or by other Federal agencies.

Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work.

To qualify for GS-11, you must have: a) One year of directly related specialized experience equivalent to the GS-09 level: Assisting with analyzing program and project data to assess effectiveness in meeting established goals and/or objectives; Helping with fact-finding to obtain information about organizational functions and work procedures; and Assisting with the preparation of summary documents and/or policy analysis reports to improve program operations or support compliance with applicable laws, regulations, or guidance.

OR b) Completed all requirements for a doctoral degree (i.e., Ph.D.

or equivalent) in an appropriate field OR c) Completed 3 full academic years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a Ph.D.

degree or equivalent doctoral degree in an appropriate field OR d) LL.M., if related OR e) Have an equivalent combination of experience and graduate study as discussed in a), b), c) and d) above To qualify for GS-12, you must have one year of directly related specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 level: Preparing written summary documents and/or policy analysis reports to improve program operations or support compliance with applicable laws, regulations, or guidance; Performing research and analysis to improve program efficiency; and Presenting analysis results to stakeholders at various levels of an organization.
