Full Job Description

This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Domestic Defense Industrial Base & Major Range & Test Facilities Base to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.

About the Position: This position is under the supervision of the US Army Watervliet Installation Management Division, Public Works Division.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. There is no specific length of training or experience required.

However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Maintenance Worker (Motor Vehicle Operator) 1) perform at least three of the following building maintenance tasks: carpentry, plumbing, and pest control; and 2) perform manual labor tasks such as policing grounds for trash and debris, mowing lawns, and trimming shrubs Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

Performs work requiring the exertion of very heavy physical effort. Frequently lifts and moves objects weighing up to 44 pounds, sometimes for extended periods.

Work frequently requires standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, climbing, stooping, and working in tiring and uncomfortable positions for extended periods.

Requires climbing on ladders, scaffolding, and rooftops. Work is performed both inside and outside.

When outside, is frequently exposed to all kinds of weather and temperature extremes, drafts, noise, dust, fumes and dirt.

Some inside work is in confined areas with minimum ventilation and/or limited access.

Employee is exposed to moderate or high noise levels from operating machinery, sawdust in the air, glue fumes, and the hazards of working on and around scaffolds and ladders.

Is exposed to the possibility of bruises, muscle strains, cuts, and scrapes. Must use personal protective equipment such as respirators, gloves, goggles, face masks, ear plugs, and safety glasses.

Major Duties:

  • Perform duties related to roads and grounds maintenance and various facility repair activities using both manually and various types of equipment.
  • Performs snow removal operations, building maintenance and upkeep duties, preparing ground for laying sod, planting flowers and shrubs.
  • Operates tractors and towed or attached equipment to maintain roads and grounds, primarily tom ow lawns and plow snow.
  • Performs pest management duties for the installation
  • Serves as Quality Assurance Evaluator for all pest control services performed
  • Operates and performs maintenance on dump trucks.
  • Provides assistance in other areas of the Public Works maintenance section such as in carpentry and plumbing.
