Job Description

Summary

This job involves hands-on maintenance and repair work on facilities and equipment at a government lab focused on animal and plant health, including systems like water supply, air conditioning, electrical, and waste decontamination.

You'll also handle preventive upkeep, order supplies, and occasionally help with basic animal care tasks.

Key Requirements

  • Training and experience in performing preventative maintenance and repairs on industrial equipment and facilities
  • Ability to operate, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair water supply systems
  • Skills in operating, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing air conditioning, ventilation, steam generation, and wastewater sterilization systems
  • Experience with electrical systems and lighting maintenance and repair
  • Knowledge of decontamination procedures for waste chambers, ventilation filters, and biosafety cabinets
  • Capability to recognize repair needs, perform preventive building maintenance, and prepare material requests
  • Assistance in ordering supplies and basic animal care tasks like feeding, unloading, biosecurity, and restraint when needed

Full Job Description

If selected, you will be responsible for performing a variety of preventative and repair work to assigned facilities and equipment.

To qualify, you must show that you have had training and experience of sufficient scope and quality to provide you with the knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the duties of the position.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Major Duties:

  • The duties may include, but are not limited to:
  • Install, preventively maintain, and repair industrial equipment.
  • Operate, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair the water supply system.
  • Operate, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair the Laboratory's air conditioning and ventilation systems, steam generation and sterilization system, and wastewater sterilization system.
  • Operate, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair the electrical system and lighting.
  • Decontaminates the waste chamber, ventilation system filters, and biosafety cabinets.
  • Prepares requests for materials necessary for the repair and/or maintenance of industrial equipment.
  • Recognizes the need for periodic repairs and performs preventive maintenance of buildings.
  • Assists in the ordering and purchasing of supplies and materials.
  • When directed the incumbent will also provide assistance in animal care taking, to include the feeding, care, unloading and release, biosecurity, restraint.
