What You Will Be Doing:

Under the supervision of the Maintenance Specialist Foreman at GCCC, the primary responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Conduct routine and non-routine inspections and perform preventative maintenance, troubleshooting and repair on all HVAC equipment, ventilation system, refrigeration, air conditioners, chillers, freezers, coolers, and heat pumps located in or around GCCC.
  • Install, maintain, service and repair equipment such as electric motors, heaters, coolers, refrigerators, freezers, compressors, water heaters and plumbing facilities using hand and power tools of the maintenance trade.
  • Advise supervisor for ordering purposes when parts are needed; assure parts are readily available when needed.

Goose Creek Correctional Center is a minimum/medium custody facility that houses up to 1500 inmates and employs over 350 staff. You will be working in an institutional setting with inmates daily.

This job class is part of a series of competency based class specifications created for career areas within the Labor, Trades, and Crafts Unit. The class specification identifies the levels of work and wage grades within the career area, the core and specific competencies of the career area, required work behaviors, certifications, and physical requirements. Vacancies in this job class are filled through Union referral, except for promotions, demotions, transfers, and emergency appointments.

RECRUITMENT DIFFICULTIES

Starting salary may be approved up to Step C - $36.46, if criteria are met.

Please be aware – this position requires the use of the Alaska Public Safety Information Network (APSIN). A security clearance issued by the Department of Public Safety (DPS) is necessary to use APSIN.

DPS will deny security clearance for any applicant who has been convicted of a felony or misdemeanor in this state or another jurisdiction, or who may be a fugitive from justice.

Additionally, security clearance will be withdrawn if DPS discovers that material information was falsified or omitted at the time of the initial application for security clearance.
