This job involves leading a team of up to 12 maintenance workers at a naval shipyard, overseeing repairs and projects in trades like electrical, plumbing, carpentry, and air conditioning for facilities and ships.
A good fit would be someone with hands-on experience in multiple building trades, strong leadership skills to guide and correct work, and the ability to ensure projects stay on track while following safety and quality rules.
It's ideal for a seasoned mechanic who enjoys supervising others in a busy, technical environment.
You will serve as a MAINTENANCE MECHANIC SUPERVISOR in the Production Resources Department (Code 900), Production Resources Manager (Code 901), Service Shop (Code 990) of NORFOLK NAVAL SHIPYARD.
Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most trade and labor occupations, you must show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying.
Qualification requirements emphasis is on quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time.

The Screen-out Element for this position is: ABILITY TO LEAD OR SUPERVISE Ability to provide technical directions to workers in various trade disciplines to include, carpentry, plumbing, painting, electrical, pipefitting, and air conditioning for various facilities; Ability applying knowledge of shop mathematics to plan, compute, and layout projects; Ability to interpret and apply building plans and blueprints; Ability leading or supervising processes involved in the fabric worker trade while initiating any necessary corrective actions to overcome delays in project completion.
Ability ensuring compliance with applicable laws regulations and policies; Ability to plan, assign, and review work. AND Ability to obtain and maintain a radiological supervisor level qualification.
Ability to obtain and maintain a Nuclear Quality Control (NQC) qualification.
