Full Job Description

This position is located in Blue Ridge Parkway, in the Maintenance and Engineering Division. Career/Career-Conditional Full-time appointment.

As a condition of employment for accepting this position, you will be required to serve a 1year probationary period during which your fitness and whether your continued employment advances the public interest will be evaluated.

Major Duties:

Major Duties Statement The position is a Maintenance Mechanic Supervisor for the Blue Ridge Parkway.

Two positions are being recruited, one at each of the following locations: Oteen Sub-District, located in Asheville, North Carolina or Balsam Sub-District, located in Balsam, North Carolina.

The position is a working supervisor, assigned responsibility for daily maintenance operations and the construction and repair of physical facilities within the assigned area.

The position provides daily supervision and direction to assigned workers to accomplish trades work and maintenance, construction, and repair operations on a variety of facilities including historic structures, water and wastewater utilities, roads, trails, maintained landscapes.

The incumbent organizes, directs, and reviews activities performed largely by Parkway maintenance personnel but may also be assigned supervision of such work by private contract.

Incumbent is required to be available on call to respond to emergencies during off duty hours.

Area/Duty Station Information The Blue Ridge Parkway extends 469 miles along the crest of the southern Appalachian Mountains through North Carolina and Virginia between two eastern national parks - Shenandoah and Great Smoky Mountains.
