Experience refers to performing duties at the journeyman level ensuring the proper operation, maintenance, and repair of building systems, including electrical, mechanical, and safety devices -AND- consistently monitoring, evaluating, and adjusting equipment and controls in facilities to maintain optimal performance and ensure compliance with safety regulations, to include experience in the operation and maintenance of digital-controlled environmental systems.
Applicants must have technical knowledge of building systems that has enabled them to make critical decisions that directly impact facility operations, training schedules, and the overall functionality of training areas.

Physical Efforts: Continually handles objects weighing up to 10 pounds and occasionally may lift and carry items that weigh about 50 pounds. Considerable standing, stooping, and bending is required.
Also works on ladders and scaffolds, which require the incumbent to work overhead or in stretched, cramped, or awkward positions.
Working Conditions: Works inside in areas that are usually crowded and noisy, and outside, sometimes in bad weather.
The Maintenance Mechanic is exposed to the possibility of electrical shock, cuts, bruises, and broken bones. Also works on scaffolding, high ladders, or rooftops.
The Maintenance Mechanic may be required to work shift work and/or weekends. May be required to start work earlier, stay later than normal working hours, or be called back for emergencies.
The Maintenance Mechanic complies with the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) certification for handling of refrigerants and must be able to possess a valid universal license approved by the EPA, if refrigerant work is required.
Hazards may require wearing full-faced pressurized breathing mask, which requires the Maintenance Mechanic to be clean-shaven.
Occasionally required to wear protective clothing where there is the possibility of exposure to gunpowder, toxic refrigerant, and/or other hazardous materials.
Required to operate government vehicles to travel between work sites.
This position is deemed Emergency Essential in accordance with FLETC Directive 70-90.F, Hurricane Response Plan dated August 19, 2019. Major Duties:
Serving as a Maintenance Mechanic Leader WL-4749-11 makes you a valuable member of the Federal Law Enforcement Training Centers (FLETC) team and mission.
This position is located in the Facilities Operations Branch within Facilities Management Division under Mission and Readiness Support Directorate Glynco, Georgia.
The primary purpose of this position is responsible to coordinate, monitor, and perform requisite installation and repair duties for the upkeep, operation, and utilization of the agency's specialized training facilities and support facilities.
Typical duties include: Leading a team of maintenance mechanics by assigning tasks, setting priorities, and ensuring the timely completion of work orders to support FLETC's training schedule.
Performing journeyman-level maintenance and repair on a variety of building systems, including electrical, mechanical, HVAC, plumbing, and digital-controlled environmental systems.
Ensuring all maintenance activities comply with federal, state, and local safety regulations, as well as FLETC and DHS policies.
Coordinating with Facilities Management Division leadership to prioritize maintenance tasks and address urgent facility needs.
