The Opportunity
WSDOT is seeking a motivated and mechanically inclined individual to provide essential maintenance repairs and maintenance of the areas landscaped and irrigation systems.
In this role, you will perform hands-on maintenance and testing of water system infrastructure such as backflow prevention devices, drains, valves, sprinklers, and controllers to ensure proper operation.
Other responsibilities also include maintaining inventory of parts and materials, activating and deactivating systems, and assisting with roadside activities such as herbicide application and vegetation management.
A strong candidate will demonstrate proficiency in administrative and financial processes, mechanical aptitude, attention to detail, ability to manage diverse tasks in both office and field settings, and a commitment to safety, organization, and customer service.
What to Expect
This position performs work that is often physical in nature and performed primarily outdoors and often next to high-volume, high-speed traffic.
Duties may include working at elevated heights above 25 feet above land or water, assisting others in a confined environment, negotiating rough, steep terrain; and performing work low to the ground and working around chemicals and products such as herbicides, gasoline, diesel, solvents, oils, lubricants, paint, cleaners, and hot asphalt.
Weekends and holidays may be required to respond to non-scheduled call-out emergencies. Rotational night shift is required.
