This job is for a temporary, part-time helper who assists with basic upkeep of county facilities like parks, roads, and utilities under close guidance from supervisors.

Qualifications Minimum QualificationsPossession of a valid California Driver's License, Class 3 (now Class C) or higher.Ability to follow written and oral instructions and abide by rules and regulations; learn and perform maintenance assignments; read, write, and speak English at a level necessary for satisfactory job performance.General QualificationsMinimum Age Requirement: Applicants must be 18 years of age prior to appointment because of the hazards of the job, as defined by the Fair Labor Standard Act.Physical Abilities:In some positions incumbents will be required to perform heavy manual labor, which may include such tasks as digging ditches, lifting and carrying of materials such as cement bags, frequent walking and/or standing, and lifting, carrying or throwing shovelsfull of paving material.Working Conditions:Incumbents in this class are required to work out of doors in all kinds of weather and under dusty, dirty as well as hazardous conditions, and are subject to emergency or on-call work at other than normal duty hours.Probationary PeriodThe probationary period for this classification is six (6) months.
