This recruitment will establish an employment list to fill current and any future vacancies within the General Services Agency. The anticipated life of the employment list is six months.

Current vacancy is with the General Services Agency located in Visalia. The anticipated life of the list is six months.


Requirements

  • Plan, lay out, determine required materials and estimate cost of electrical work.
  • Install electrical panelboards, conduits, transformers, pull boxes, switchgear, and related enclosures for electrical services.
  • Install electrical raceways in all types of buildings and underground.
  • Service, repair, and fabricate pumps, motor controls, distribution systems, alarm systems and various other types of electrical equipment and apparatus.
  • Test, locate and repair trouble in electrical circuits and equipment.

Qualifications

Minimum qualifications are used as a guide for establishing the education, training, experience, special skills and/or license which are required and equivalent to the following.


Education:

  • Equivalent to completion of the twelfth(12th) grade.


Experience:

  • Four (4) years of increasingly responsible experience as an apprentice electrician, including one year at the journey level or completion of a recognized electrician's apprenticeship program


Knowledge of:

  • National Electric Code and related codes and regulations.
  • Theory of electricity.
  • Practices, tools, equipment and materials used in the electrical trade.
  • Installation, operation and maintenance of electrical equipment, apparatus, and instruments.
  • State and Federal safety regulations and common safety hazards.
  • Security cameras and related systems and components.
  • Low voltage electrical installations.
  • Security door controls and related systems and components.
  • Basic math to size materials and estimate project costs and use precision measuring devices.


Skill/Ability to:

  • Work and communicate effectively with people of various education and socioeconomic backgrounds by respecting beliefs, interpersonal styles and behaviors of both clients and co-workers.
  • Operate contemporary office equipment inclusive of computer, keyboard, and all applicable electronic equipment.
  • Read and understand service requests, blueprints, sketches and installation instructions.
  • Plan electrical wiring systems.
  • Prepare accurate drawings and job specifications for electrical work.
  • Perform complex electrical installations.
  • Assist others in the proper installation and maintenance of electrical systems and components.
  • Repair and service circuit boards and related systems and components.
  • Safely use appropriate electrical tools, equipment and materials.
  • Estimate labor and material requirements and costs.
  • Accurately record and complete Corrigo service requests.
  • Give and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Explain technical terms to others.
  • Adjust to workload changes.
  • Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with co-workers and the public.

License or Certificate:


  • Possession of, or ability to obtain, an appropriate, valid California driver's license.


NECESSARY CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS:

  • Candidates selected will be required to pass a pre-employment drug and alcohol screening.
  • A physical exam may be required to ensure the applicant’s fitness for duty.
  • Applicants must undergo a law enforcement background investigation and receive security clearance from the Tulare County Sheriff’s Department and maintain that clearance for the duration of employment.


DESIRABLE EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS

Knowledge of:

  • Elevator control systems.
  • Low voltage security systems.
  • Ethernet based control systems.

Conditions of Employment

Candidates selected will be required to pass a pre-employment drug and alcohol screening.

Additionally, a background investigation may also be conducted, which may include a re-investigation every 10 years for some positions.

An Employment Eligibility Verification using E-Verify may be required on the first day of employment for some positions. Some job classes may also require a physical exam.
