The City of Pasadena Public Works Department is currently seeking a Maintenance Assistant to perform general maintenance and laboring duties. IDEAL CANDIDATE

The successful candidate will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, a good attitude, be dependable, and a team player. The candidate will perform general maintenance and laboring duties in a variety of areas including construction, maintenance, and repair of streets, sewers and storm drains, forestry, traffic signs and painting, graffiti removal, and department assigned Public Works related duties.

This recruitment is authorized as Open Competitive and Promotional, and two eligible lists will be established as a result of this recruitment.

Performs general maintenance and laboring duties, including heavy manual labor work, in a variety of areas including construction, maintenance, and repair of streets, sewers and storm drains, forestry, street lights and traffic signals, and graffiti removal.Assist electricians, carpenters, painters, and plumbers in the maintenance and repair of buildings, structures, and City equipment.Use hand and power tools to dig, grade and backfill ditches and excavations, and in a variety of building trades maintenance and repair.

    • At least three months of related work experience.
    • Experience operating light equipment and basic machine shop equipment is desirable.
    • Experience working in a team environment as a crew member is also desirable.
    SELECTION PROCESS
    The selection process will consist of any combination of application evaluation, written exam, oral panel interview, department interview and may be required to complete a brief soft-skills assessment during the selection process.     VACANCY INFORMATION
    There are currently two vacancies in the Street Maintenance Division of the Public Works Department. The resulting eligibility list from this recruitment may be used to fill these vacancies and similar vacancies in the future. Candidates selected for these positions are subject to a one-year probationary work period.

    Additional Information

    Must have or obtain a valid Class C California Driver License, as it is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continued employment. Incumbents may be rotated and reassigned to different work activities and work schedules on an as-needed basis.
