This job involves leading a team of machinists in a naval shipyard, overseeing their daily work to ensure high-quality repairs and production on ships and submarines.
You'll plan tasks, provide technical guidance, evaluate performance, and promote fairness in team management.
It's a great fit for experienced machinists who enjoy supervising others and have a strong background in shipyard operations.
You will serve as a MACHINIST SUPVERVISOR I in the Mechanical Shop (Code 930), Production Resources Department Manager (Code 901), Production Resources Department (Code 900), of NORFOLK NAVAL SHIPYARD.
Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most trade and labor occupations, you must show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying.
Qualification requirements emphasis is on quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time.

The Screen-out Element for this position is: ABILITY TO LEAD AND SUPERVISE Experience applying machinist procedures, directives, and shipyard instructions in order to properly supervise work of a specialized nature such as Level I and SubSafe.
Experience interpreting Advanced Industrial Management (AIM) processes and providing a high level of productivity while maintaining technical and quality control.
Experience planning the use of workers, equipment, facilities, materials and tools through knowledge and practices of the machinist trade.
Experience providing technical directions to workers in the machinist trade and general knowledge of work techniques, methods and equipment used by journeymen in any other shipyard trade.
Experience communicating work assignments to subordinate work leaders and journeymen through interpretation of procedures, blueprints, job orders.
Experience monitoring the status of assigned work in relation to the overall scheduled requirements.
