This job involves installing, repairing, and maintaining locks and related security systems in a VA hospital, including some basic carpentry work to fix doors and walls.
It requires hands-on work in a shop and around the facility, often in physically demanding conditions like bending or lifting heavy items.
A good fit would be someone with practical experience in locksmithing who is reliable, detail-oriented, and comfortable working independently in a government healthcare setting.
This position functions as a Locksmith for the Facilities Management Service line within the Carpenter Shop in the Maintenance and Operations Section of the Engineering Service at VA Kansas City Health Care System (VAKCHCS), in Kansas City, MO.
PHYSICAL EFFORT AND WORK CONDITIONS: Work requires frequent standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, and working in awkward positions.
Lifts up to 50 pounds without assistance and heavier objects with assistance.
Works in a fully secured lock shop containing all required tools, equipment and materials, and performs 60% of preliminary work therein.
The remainder of the time spent working is in the field, both indoors and outdoors. Exposed to possibility of cuts, abrasions, scrapes and bruises.
You must wear shields for protection when operating key cutting machine and electric grinder. Observes all safety precautions.
