This job involves maintaining and repairing mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical systems at a lock and dam facility to keep water navigation infrastructure running smoothly.
The role requires hands-on work like inspections, preventive maintenance, and fixing equipment under varying weather and emergency conditions.

About the Position: The incumbent performs journeyman level maintenance for mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic and electrical systems at a high lift lock and dam facility.
Performs and participates in a variety of diagnostic inspections, preventive maintenance and repairs of associated lock and dam appurtenances.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a Lock and Dam Equipment Mechanic without more than normal supervision.
Ability to perform common installation of new equipment, maintenance, repair overhaul or replacement of parts.
Work under close supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed.

Ability To Do The Work Of The Position Without More Than Normal Supervision (Screen-out Element) Ability to Interpret Instructions, Specification, etc.
(includes blueprint reading) Ability To Use and Maintain Tools and Equipment Knowledge of Equipment Assembly, Installation, Repair, etc.
Physical Effort: The physical effort required to perform assigned work requires frequent standing, stooping, stretching, bending, climbing, crouching, lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds.
The work also requires hand-eye coordination, working in somewhat confined spaces, hearing to detect indications of equipment problems, etc.
The physical effort is normal for strenuous FWS positions and has no bearing on grade level.
Working Conditions: Work is performed both inside and outside during the day and at night, as required by emergencies, on high structures over water that is frequently turbulent, in the proximity of moving machinery and high tension electrical wires, and on scaffolds or slings.
Occasionally works behind bulkhead or in tunnels below water level.
Is subject to falls, drowning, electrical shocks, injury and discomfort, exposure to moving equipment, machinery, loud noises, inclement weather, and, at some locations, dangerous icy conditions.
Uses safety equipment such as life vest, protective hearing devices, hard hat, hard-toe shoes, respirators, and protective clothing.
The working conditions are typical for strenuous FWS positions with the exception of the "water element".
These types of working conditions have no bearing on the grade level of this position. Major Duties:
