Summary
This job is for a lieutenant at a correctional facility in South Carolina, where you'll oversee security staff, conduct inspections for safety and cleanliness, handle inmate and staff disputes, and ensure accurate counts of people.

Full Job Description
Supervises all security staff in a correctional facility.
Instructs and trains subordinate staff and makes inspections to ensure they properly perform assigned duties.
Make sanitation, safety and security inspections of all buildings, building contents, grounds and vehicles.
Investigates complaints and violations; arbitrates disputes among inmate population and correctional staff.
Supervises and verifies the accuracy of scheduled formal counts; makes informal counts when required.
Prepares and submits written operational and administrative reports.
Studies and remains thoroughly familiar with current policies and procedures.

State of South Carolina Minimum Requirements:A high school diploma and relevant experience. A bachelor’s degree in a related field may substitute for the required experience.
SCDC Minimum Requirements:
- A high school diploma and three (3) years of experience in correctional, security, military, or police work to include one (1) year of supervisory experience.
- A degree in criminal justice or a related degree may substitute for supervisory experience year for year (associate and above = 1 year).
- Must be certified by the SCDC Training Academy and successfully complete the basic supervisory course within six (6) months of entry into the position.
