Summary
This job is for a lieutenant overseeing the transportation team at a correctional facility, where you'll manage staff schedules, ensure vehicle safety and cleanliness, conduct inspections for security and contraband, and handle training and documentation.
It's ideal for someone with experience in corrections or security who enjoys leading a team in a structured, high-responsibility environment.
Expect to complete mandatory training to get up to speed on procedures.

Full Job Description
- Supervises security staff assigned to the transportation department. prepares work schedules and issues duty assignments.
Supervises the leave and attendance of subordinates.
Make sanitation, safety and security inspections of vehicles to make sure subordinate staff are performing their duties properly and safely, and that cleanliness and OSHA standards are maintained.
Trains subordinates, supervises and verifies the accuracy of scheduled formal counts; makes informal count when necessary.
Prepares and submits written documentation when required.
Conducts security checks/inspections for contraband control.
Studies and remains thoroughly familiar with current operational and administrative directives pertaining to minimum and medium/maximum security institutions for transporting reasons.
This position is for transportation.
Must successfully complete eight (8) weeks of SCDC Basic Training upon hire.

A high school diploma and relevant experience. A bachelor’s degree in a related field may substitute for the required experience.
SCDC Minimum Requirements:
- A high school diploma and three (3) years of experience in correctional, security, military, or police work to include one (1) year of supervisory experience.
- A degree in criminal justice or a related degree may substitute for supervisory experience year for year (associate and above = 1 year).
- Must be certified by the SCDC Training Academy and successfully complete the basic supervisory course within six (6) months of entry into the position.
