This job involves checking businesses in Seattle to make sure they follow city rules on things like short-term rentals, cannabis shops, taxis, and accurate pricing at stores, helping protect consumers and ensure fairness.
You'll spend a lot of time out in the field talking to business owners, educating them on the rules, and sometimes issuing fines if needed, with shifts that can include nights and weekends.
It's a great fit for people who are good at solving problems, communicating well, and enjoy public service without needing prior law enforcement experience.
The Consumer Protection Division (CPD) is seeking community-minded problem solvers with strong analytical skills, sound judgment, and excellent interpersonal skills for three (3) Licenses & Standards Inspector positions.
In this role, you’ll help protect Seattle’s residents and businesses by ensuring fair, consistent enforcement of city regulations across a variety of industries.
You’ll work both independently and collaboratively, engaging with business owners, consumers, and community partners to promote compliance through education and, when necessary, enforcement.
You don’t need a background in law enforcement — successful inspectors come from diverse professional fields including public administration, education, social services, customer service, business operations, and investigations.
If you’re adaptable, confident in the field, and committed to fairness and public service, we encourage you to apply.
This position involves extensive fieldwork and a varied schedule that includes nights, weekends, and holidays.
