Job Description

Summary

This job involves evaluating and protecting groundwater sources for public drinking water systems in southeastern Pennsylvania, including researching data, building models of water flow, and identifying risks to water quality.

You'll split time between office analysis and occasional field visits to ensure safe drinking water for communities.

The Department of Environmental Protection is currently seeking a Licensed Professional Geologist for its Southeast Regional Office, focusing on Safe Drinking Water.

Requirements

In this essential position, you will assess various hydrogeologic tasks related to the evaluation, safeguarding, and development of hydrogeologic features pertinent to Source Water Assessment and Protection (SWAP) within the Southeast Region.

Your responsibilities will include researching and analyzing relevant hydrogeologic, hydraulic, and monitoring data to delineate wellhead protection areas (WHPA) for groundwater sources that supply public water systems (PWS).

You will identify the hydrogeologic context of drinking water sources for these systems and create a conceptual groundwater flow model, estimating water tables or potentiometric surfaces for the source and adjacent aquifers based on existing data.

When necessary, you will utilize an initial conceptual model to develop either an analytical or numerical model to simulate groundwater flow and potential contaminant transport.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • Minimal travel required in Southeastern Pennsylvania
  • Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time, up to 3 days per week.

    In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania.

    If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Norristown. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time.

  • Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $69,203 (before taxes).

QUALIFICATIONS
Special Requirements:

  • This position requires possession of an active license as a professional geologist issued by the Pennsylvania State Registration Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors and Geologists.
  • This position requires possession of an active Pennsylvania non-commercial Class C driver's license or equivalent.
