This job involves evaluating and protecting groundwater sources for public drinking water systems in southeastern Pennsylvania, including researching data, building models of water flow, and identifying risks to water quality.
You'll split time between office analysis and occasional field visits to ensure safe drinking water for communities.
It's a great fit for a licensed geologist who enjoys technical problem-solving and cares about environmental protection.
Are you a licensed geologist with a unique combination of technical expertise and hands-on field experience, adept at conducting both office research and on-site evaluations?
The Department of Environmental Protection is currently seeking a Licensed Professional Geologist for its Southeast Regional Office, focusing on Safe Drinking Water.
By becoming a member of our esteemed team, you will contribute to an organization dedicated to safeguarding our essential water resources while ensuring that all stakeholders recognize the critical importance of protecting the health and safety of your community.

In this essential position, you will assess various hydrogeologic tasks related to the evaluation, safeguarding, and development of hydrogeologic features pertinent to Source Water Assessment and Protection (SWAP) within the Southeast Region.
Your responsibilities will include researching and analyzing relevant hydrogeologic, hydraulic, and monitoring data to delineate wellhead protection areas (WHPA) for groundwater sources that supply public water systems (PWS).
You will identify the hydrogeologic context of drinking water sources for these systems and create a conceptual groundwater flow model, estimating water tables or potentiometric surfaces for the source and adjacent aquifers based on existing data.
When necessary, you will utilize an initial conceptual model to develop either an analytical or numerical model to simulate groundwater flow and potential contaminant transport.
