This job involves reviewing permits for waste disposal sites, monitoring groundwater around waste facilities, and investigating contamination to protect Pennsylvania's environment.
You'll prepare reports, recommend actions on permits or spills, and sometimes testify in court as a geology expert.
It's a great fit for a detail-oriented licensed geologist passionate about environmental safety and waste management.

As a Licensed Professional Geologist with Waste Management, you will be responsible for reviewing permitting applications for hazardous, municipal, and residual waste disposal, processing, and treatment facilities; implementing a groundwater protection strategy at solid waste facilities in the Southcentral Region; monitoring the groundwater surrounding permitted and unpermitted waste facilities; and monitoring remedial activities at contaminated sites.
In alignment with the permit review process, you will conduct field investigations and draft deficiency letters as necessary, outlining any regulatory citations.
In addition, you will prepare various reports highlighting data, conclusions, and recommendations regarding permit applications, contamination events, or spills.
Reports are then used in the development of regional action policies surrounding permit approval or denial, legal action, or an appropriate response to a contamination event or an evaluation of the status of a Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) Corrective Action facility.
As an expert in the field, you my be required to serve as a witness in some cases held before the Environmental Hearing Board, county, or Commonwealth courts.
