Requirements

As a Licensed Professional Geologist with Waste Management, you will be responsible for reviewing permitting applications for hazardous, municipal, and residual waste disposal, processing, and treatment facilities; implementing a groundwater protection strategy at solid waste facilities in the Southcentral Region; monitoring the groundwater surrounding permitted and unpermitted waste facilities; and monitoring remedial activities at contaminated sites.

In alignment with the permit review process, you will conduct field investigations and draft deficiency letters as necessary, outlining any regulatory citations.

In addition, you will prepare various reports highlighting data, conclusions, and recommendations regarding permit applications, contamination events, or spills.

Reports are then used in the development of regional action policies surrounding permit approval or denial, legal action, or an appropriate response to a contamination event or an evaluation of the status of a Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) Corrective Action facility.

As an expert in the field, you my be required to serve as a witness in some cases held before the Environmental Hearing Board, county, or Commonwealth courts.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time, up to 3 days per week.

    In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania.

    If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Harrisburg. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time.

  • Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of
    $69,203.00 (before taxes).

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS

Special Requirements:

  • This position requires possession of an active Pennsylvania non-commercial Class C driver's license or equivalent.
  • This position requires possession of an active license as a professional geologist issued by the Pennsylvania State Registration Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors and Geologists.


Other Requirements:

  • You must possess and maintain a REAL ID or passport for this position. Proof of possession will be needed at the time of a conditional offer of employment.
  • PA residency requirement is currently waived for this title.
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.
