Full Job Description

The VA Northeast Ohio Healthcare System is recruiting for an Licensed Practical Nurse (Urology Specialty Clinic).

The Licensed Practical Nurse (Urology Specialty Clinic) will function in the Ambulatory Care Nursing Service.

In order to qualify for this position, you must meet the requirements below within 30 calendar days of the closing date listed on the announcement.

Basic Requirements: United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. English Language Proficiency.

In accordance with 38 U.S.C. 7402(d), no person shall serve in direct patient care positions unless they are proficient in basic written and spoken English.

Education - Graduate of a school of practical or vocational nursing approved by the appropriate State agency and/or accredited by the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC) at the time the program was completed by the applicant.

Exceptions include health care education in the military service or training in the military service which is accepted by the licensing body in the jurisdiction in which the individual is licensed as qualifying for full LPN/LVN licensure will be accepted as meeting the education requirements for VHA employment OR granted a license by a jurisdiction that does not require graduation from an approved school.

Licensure - Full, active, current and unrestricted licensure as a [ ] licensed practical or vocational nurse in a State, Territory or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico) of the United States, or District of Columbia.

May qualify based on being covered by the Grandfathering Provision as described in the VA Qualification Standard for this occupation (only applicable to current VHA employees who are in this occupation and meet the criteria).

Grade Determinations GS-7: Completion of at least one year of qualifying experience at the GS-6 level or equivalent fully meeting all performance requirements for the GS-6 LPN/LVN and your resume must fully support this.

Examples of experience include proficiency in initiating, performing and completing assigned duties in providing care to variable patient populations, knowledge and ability to appropriately carry out assigned patient care based on patients' conditions; selecting the appropriate order and sequence of procedures and treatments; completed work only needs a general review by a registered nurse or physician; preparing and administering prescribed medications (oral, topical, subcutaneous, intramuscular and/or intravenous); recognizing urgent or emergent patient care situations, seeking assistance of the RN and/or MD/DO, and initiating appropriate emergency interventions as directed; and performing duties for complex diagnostic tests and/or specialized practices or procedures.

The Licensed Practical Nurse (Urology Specialty Clinic) duties include, but are not limited to: Performs a wide variety of nursing care duties as assigned.

Handles specialized equipment and assists Physicians during procedures. Performs a wide range of routine urology procedures. Assumes responsibility for completing orientation and skills checklists.

Applies infection control measures appropriately in delivering nursing care. Possesses the knowledge and skills to carry out more specialized patient care activities.

This knowledge base includes the use of veteran data to initiate active contributions to the veterans overall health plan.

Observations of veterans present status are made and interventions implemented to improve, restore to maintain the optimal function of the veteran.

Work Schedule: Monday- Friday, 8:00am- 4:30pm with flexibility as needed. Virtual: This is not a virtual position.
