Job Description

Summary

This job is for a licensed practical nurse working in a state correctional facility in Iowa, where you'll assess and treat the health needs of inmates, handle emergencies like CPR, and document all care provided.

It also involves psychiatric nursing tasks, team collaboration, and training others on health topics.

Key Requirements

  • Ability to provide training on health topics to inmates and staff, and assist with direct health services like physician support

10 Hour Shifts on . Every Other weekend

Job Description
Plan, implement and evaluate health care:
* Includes completing nursing assessments on Incarcerated Individuals.
* Includes physical examinations of all reported Incarcerated Individual injuries/illness (may include staff injuries).
* Includes nursing procedures.
* Provide emergency first aid and CPR.
* Must be able to respond to Code Blue or emergency situations with arrival in an expedient, timely manner.

Document nursing functions completed utilizing DOC policy/procedures:
* Document nursing assessments, interventions, planning and evaluations.
* Must be able to document in order to accurately describe events or findings.
* Must be able to speak, write and follow instructions in the English language.
* Must be aware of and comply with all policies/procedures.
* Must complete computer documentation.

General Psychiatric Nurse Duties:
* Assess patients to identify appropriate psychiatric nursing interventions.
* Collaborate with members of an interdisciplinary health team to plan, implement, coordinate, and evaluate client care.
* Monitor, assess, address, document and report symptoms and changes in client's condition.

Communicate as a member of the Interdisciplinary Team (IDP):
Must be able to deliver written and verbal information to Incarcerated Individuals and off-site
medical personnel.

Ensure that training is provided:
* Provide Incarcerated Individual training, i.e., medication, daily cares.
* Provide staff training.

Assist with direct health services;
* Including assisting physician, dentist, optometrist, X-ray and/or lab services.

Minimum Qualification Requirements
Licensure as a Licensed Practical Nurse by the Iowa Board of Nursing or licensure as a Licensed Practical Nurse in accordance with the Nurse Licensure Compact Administrator's Agreement of the National Council of State Boards of Nursing.
