Summary

This job is for a licensed practical nurse at a retirement home for military veterans in Washington, D.C., where you'll give medications to residents, provide hands-on care, and help lead nursing tasks under a registered nurse's guidance.

Key Requirements

Full Job Description

This position is located in Healthcare Service, Armed Forces Retirement Home, Washington, D.C., Nursing Service.

The primary purpose of the position is to administer medications to groups of Residents and to accomplish specific nursing care and nursing team-leading duties as assigned by a professional registered nurse.

You must meet the following requirements by the closing date of this announcement. The experience may have been gained in either the public, private sector or volunteer service.

One year of experience refers to full-time work; part-time work is considered on a prorated basis.

Specialized Experience for the GS-07: You must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-06 grade level in the Federal service.

Specialized experience for this position includes: - Nursing care work in a hospital, outpatient clinic, nursing home, or other supervised medical, nursing, or care facility that provided a practical knowledge of human body structure, and sterile techniques and procedures.

LPN - Candidates must be currently licensed to practice as practical or vocational nurses in a State or territory of the United States or the District of Columbia or must have applied for a license to practice.

Applications of candidates possessing a license must be accompanied by (1) a certified or photostatic copy of the license, (2) a notarized statement attesting to the fact, or (3) a citation of the license number and State issuing it.

Non-licensed candidates who have completed their training may be appointed subject to obtaining the required license during the probationary period.

Those not licensed must furnish (1) the date on which they applied for a license and (2) the jurisdiction involved.

No person appointed pending licensure may be retained beyond the probationary period if licensure has not been attained.

SPECIAL NOTE: Long-term care experience and/or interacting with geriatric patients is highly desired. Major Duties:

As a Licensed Practical Nurse, you will: Perform nursing assignments of a highly specialized nature to include medication administration and hands on nursing care.

Identify Resident problems and provides input to the plan of care. Communicate responses and/or changes to others to include all personnel, physicians, and members of interdisciplinary teams.

Describe the Resident in writing if indicated to include all the following: physical appearance, emotional status, Resident's interaction with staff and/or family, Resident's knowledge of disease process and Resident's verbal/nonverbal actions/responses.
