Summary

This job is for a library technician at a military base in Fort Lee, Virginia, where you'll help library visitors check out books, organize shelves, answer simple questions, and handle basic tasks like ordering materials and maintaining records.

Key Requirements

  • Ability to register patrons, charge/discharge materials, process overdues, and assist with inter-library loans and reserves
  • Skills in shelving materials, preparing displays, organizing programs, answering basic reference questions, and helping customers locate items
  • Experience providing technical support including basic/copy cataloging, ordering/receiving/processing, and de-acquisitioning library materials
  • Proficiency in maintaining accountability records, performing shelf inventories, and conducting simple maintenance on automated library systems
  • Flexible availability for 0-40 hours per week in a non-guaranteed schedule

Full Job Description

This position is located at Fort Lee, VA - MWR - Library Incentives and Bonuses Incentives will not be paid. Please note: This is a "Flexible" position (0-40 hours). Hours are not guaranteed.

A qualified candidate must possess one of the following: One year of specialized experience at the next lower grade. Two years of education above high school.

A combination of specialized experience and education that equates to 100% of the qualification requirements.

In addition to the above qualifications, candidates who possess the following qualifications will be considered "Highly Preferred" or "Best Qualified": Minimum of 6 months work experience within a library or education program.

Major Duties:

  • Registers patrons, charges/discharges materials, processes overdues. Assists with inter-library loans and reserves.
  • Shelves library materials, prepares displays and programs activities. Answers basic reference questions, and assists customers in locating materials.
  • Provides technical services support in a variety of functions: basic/copy cataloging, ordering/receiving/processing and de-acquisitioning of library materials.
  • Assists in maintaining accountability records and in performing shelf inventories. Performs simple maintenance on the library's automated systems.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
