Job Description

Summary

This job is for a library technician at a U.S.

Army base library in Brussels, Belgium, where you'll help patrons check out books, organize materials, run small events, and maintain the library's computer systems.

It's a hands-on role supporting daily library operations for military families and staff.

A good fit would be someone with customer service experience, basic tech skills, and an interest in libraries who can work both independently and as part of a team.

Key Requirements

  • One year of specialized experience at the next lower grade level, or two years of education above high school, or a combination equating to 100% of requirements
  • Knowledge of basic library service operations and Army MWR Library mission

Full Job Description

This position is located at USAG Benelux-MWR Brussels Library, Brussels, Belgium. Incentives and Bonuses Incentives will not be paid. Resumes must be two pages (or less).

A qualified candidate must possess the following: One year of specialized experience at the next lower grade. OR Two years of education above high school.

OR A combination of specialized experience and education that equates to 100% of the qualification requirements.

In addition to the above qualifications, candidates who possess the following qualifications will be considered "Highly Preferred" or "Best Qualified": Knowledge of basic service operations for libraries, of Army MWR Library's mission, and of other MWR programs within the installation.

Knowledge of front desk library operations, technology devices, and software applications. Knowledge of library policy and application to facility operations.

Skill in providing excellent customer service, in demonstrating the use of library technology and software applications, in public speaking, and in supporting library programming for all ages.

Ability to work as part of a team and independently as needed, with the ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing through the use of Microsoft applications.

  • Provides technician support by performing a wide variety of direct services to the public: registers patrons, charges/discharges materials, processes overdues and reserves, assists with interlibrary loans and reserves, shelves library materials.
  • Prepares displays, programs activities, answers basic reference questions, and assists customers in locating materials.
  • Provides technical services support in a variety of functions: basic/copy cataloging, ordering/receiving/processing and de-acquisitioning of library materials.
  • Assists in maintaining accountability records and in performing shelf inventories.
  • Performs simple maintenance on the library's automated systems.
