Job Description

Summary

This job involves supporting a military library by handling book loans between libraries, checking materials in and out, keeping track of records, and managing daily opening and closing tasks.

It also includes answering basic questions from visitors or callers and directing them to the right people when needed.

A good fit would be someone with customer service experience in a library or similar setting, who is organized and detail-oriented.

  • At least one year of specialized experience equivalent to GS-06 level in federal service or private/public sector
  • Experience processing interlibrary loans, including borrowing requests and lending materials to other libraries
  • Proficiency in performing check-in and checkout procedures for library materials
  • Skills in maintaining accurate statistical records and tracking borrowing/lending activities
  • Ability to determine appropriateness of loan requests and recall items as needed
  • Familiarity with library opening and closing procedures
  • Capability to respond to general information inquiries and refer to appropriate personnel

Full Job Description

You will serve as a LIBRARY TECHNICIAN in the GRAY RESEARCH CENTER of TRAINING AND EDUCATION COMMAND.

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. Major Duties:

  • You will Initiate and manage interlibrary loan borrowing requests.
  • You will maintain accurate records of requests filed so that requests can be tracked daily.
  • You will process loans of materials to other libraries, determining the appropriateness of the loan request as well as tracking and, if needed, recalling items daily.
  • You will perform library opening and closing procedures daily.
  • You will respond to general information requests and, when warranted, refers callers to appropriate personnel.
