This position is part of the Office of Cybersecurity, Energy Security and Emergency Response, Department of Energy.
As a Legislative Affairs Specialist, you will be providing staff expertise to Departmental officials to advise and assist them in working with Members, personal office staffs, and Committees of Congress to ensure the exchange of information between the Department and the Congress.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: A qualified candidate's online application and resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level GS-12 in the Federal service.
Specialized experience for this position is defined as meeting 2 of 3 of the following: Analyzing and interpreting complex legislative documents, government regulations, and policy statements to determine their impact on organizational objectives and programs.
Developing and crafting clear, concise written materials, such as policy briefs, legislative analyses, talking points, and reports, for various audiences, including senior leadership and external stakeholders.
Recommending strategic approaches and actionable plans to advance organizational priorities within a legislative or regulatory environment. "Experience" refers to paid and unpaid experience.
Examples of qualifying unpaid experience may include: volunteer work done through National Service programs (such as Peace Corps and AmeriCorps); as well as work for other community-based philanthropic and social organizations.
Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills; and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.

Veterans shape the future of energy As a Legislative Affairs Specialist, you will: Attend high-level Departmental briefings to stay informed on program activities and relaying congressional concerns to program officials.
Provide staff expertise to Departmental officials on interactions with Members of Congress, personal office staffs, and Committees of Congress.
Develop and recommend legislative strategies to support the Office of Cybersecurity, Energy Security, and Emergency Response (CESER) policy and program initiatives, in coordination with the Director and other relevant offices.
Work closely with various DOE offices and Congressional members/staff to implement legislative strategies and advance CESER's interests.
Act as a liaison to the head of Communication, offering expert advice and analysis on departmental coordination concerning various issues.
